Ali's grandpa was a sealer for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had performed the wedding ceremonies for each of his grandchildren. All of them, except for Ali. Last summer, a year before she would marry Kyle, her grandparents passed away. They never got to meet the man she would marry. Although they weren't there physically, Ali and Kyle did all they could to keep their spirits present. Grammy's earrings were worn. Papa's tie tack was fastened. Her temple dress was donned for the ceremony and his 1961 corvette was used during first look photos. All of these items acted as an anchor to the family they so wished could be there.
After the sealing had been performed, Ali and Kyle, husband and wife, were asked to stand between two large mirrors. One in front of them and one in back. The sealer asked them to look at each other's reflections. When they did, their reflections went on forever. They were then told to turn and do the same in the opposite mirror. Their reflections continued on in the same way. The sealer spoke of the eternities. He said that they were standing in the middle of those who have come before them and those who would come after. Ali and Kyle were adding a link to their family chains. They were eternally connected not only to each other but to all those they've loved and will yet love.
Hank Smith said, "When we learn about the past, we gather strength for the future." Ali and Kyle, y'all come from good stock. You have all the raw materials needed to build a strong marriage and family. Knowing your desire to live your best life, there's nothing that will prevent that from coming to fruition. Congratulations, you two, and may you always strengthen your link in the family chain.
