Do you ever feel like the demands of day-to-day life consume all your focus and attention? I know I do! As moms, we’re so involved in the schedules and routines of our kids that it can seem like time is quickly slipping through our fingertips.

The truth is, time is quickly flying by! While you’re busy with the craziness of motherhood, your kids are growing up before your eyes. It’s so bittersweet to think about how fast life changes, which is why it’s so important to document each precious phase of your family.

I am a big believer in taking regular family photos. It’s one of the best ways that I have found to accurately capture my family as we grow and change. In this blog post, I’d like to share five reasons why you should create the tradition of recurring family photos.

1- Quality photos of mom

Family pictures give moms a chance to be in front of the camera with their kids. Moms deserve quality photos with their kids, not just of their kids. You can snap as many photos of your kids as you want, but when you’re the one taking them, you’ll never be in the pictures. Moms are often chief memory makers for their kids, and those memories should be documented!

2 - confidence boost for your kids

Your family photos make beautiful decor in your home, which in turn helps your kids to feel confident and supported. When you have an abundance of high-quality family photos that you adore, you’re more likely to display them on the walls. From toddlers to teenagers, kids love seeing happy memories with their family members throughout their house. It’s a constant reminder that they are loved and valued within your family unit.

3 - Document your family’s changes

Regular family photos allow you to see your family through a wider perspective. In my own family, I love being able to flip through the photos of years past and notice the little things that I overlooked at the time. For you, it might be the summer your youngest kids were both missing their front two teeth, the changing relationships between your oldest daughters, or a year-by-year snapshot of your son growing until he’s finally taller than you. These are precious moments that you never want to forget!

4 - Fond memories of the past

Consistent pictures as a family are a fun way to recall family memories, simply from your appearance. Maybe the dress you wore five years ago was also what you wore to a close friend's wedding, and the memory makes you send a quick ‘how are you’ text. Or maybe your husband’s haircut reminds you of the year you learned to cut hair at home. Regardless of how you looked during the photos, it’s so rewarding to look back at your life and think of the fond memories of each stage.

5 - A time to start family traditions

Taking family photos is fun! Gone are the days when you had to dress your entire crew up in stiff outfits and haul them down to a stuffy studio to get overly posed photos. Family sessions should be a time when you can just enjoy being together. I love taking photos that represent who you are as a family unit, and that means lots of candid moments and genuine interactions. Having your pictures taken is also the perfect excuse for a fun family tradition, like movie night or ice cream date afterward.

There really are endless benefits to taking regular family photos. There is nothing that can replace the memories you create together or the joy of having physical proof of those moments. Hiring a professional photographer (hi, that’s me!) to be your friend, guide, and cheerleader through the process is the best way to set yourself up for the best possible experience.

I can’t wait to get started!
